U.S. Visitor Testimonials

“SIAL Montreal is a show that works for us. We’re a specialty distributor and do some direct importing, and we also distribute to upscale foodservice establishments. I’ve been to all the previous shows, both to find new products and to visit with some of our current suppliers. I also look for Canadian suppliers; shipping from Canada is a lot more convenient than shipping from overseas. And I like Montreal—although I’m glad the 2008 show will take place later in the spring!”
—Maurizio DiBenigno, President, International Gourmet Foods, Springfield, VA

“I’ve been to three SIAL Montreal shows, and it’s worth the trip. I go looking for alternative ingredient suppliers for our vanilla and other extracts, as well as potential new items for our retail store’s offerings, but there are so many vendors from around the world that there’s something for everybody. In 2007 attending was really simple; we registered online and there were kiosks at the show itself to help attendees, and it all worked fine. I’m looking forward to the 2008 show.”
—Jacqueline Moffatt, Proprietor, Charles H. Baldwin & Sons, West Stockbridge, MA

“In addition to having an international flair, SIAL Montreal was accessible and easy to navigate, so I could spend the time I needed in areas where I wanted to focus. I also found that people at this show are more interested in talking to you—and it was a chance for me to get reacquainted with people that I’d done business with in the past.” —David Woods, Partner, Center Plate Development, Simsbury, CT

“From the outset the SIAL Montreal show was interesting to us. We’re a specialty food broker, and we’ve been to all four of the previous shows, because we saw opportunities to meet start-up manufacturers that we could represent in the New England area. We did find specialty products and made several business connections due to the show. It’s a well-done, world-class show.”
—Don Blanchette, Director of Marketing, Woolf Associates, Northboro, MA

“The SIAL Montreal show was a great opportunity for our retailers to participate in an international show, see new products from various countries, and network with companies and fellow grocers on an international level. Our association sponsored a bus to take member retailers to SIAL Montreal 2007, and several more of our members attended on their own, and found it beneficial. By taking the short trip to Montreal from the U.S., the show exposed our members to many European products and trends, and many of our members discovered new products and specialty items that they had been unable to obtain in the U.S.
Those grocers who had attended earlier SIAL Montreal shows found the 2007 version even more exciting, with many new products that were accessible to Vermont grocers. In addition, the participation and visibility of both the U.S. and Canadian Departments of Agriculture with informational booths was a big benefit, providing U.S. retailers with first-hand assistance regarding particular products as well as questions they might have about importing and exporting between the U.S. and Canada.”
—Donna Hogan, Director, Communications and Events, Vermont Grocers’ Association, Rutland, VT

"My experience attending SIAL Montreal was that, although small in comparison to the one in Paris, it is well worth the time and effort for U.S. companies to attend. Its size actually works to its advantage as one can really focus on the Canadian companies, some of which don't exhibit at the US shows. It was invaluable to get a taste of what is going on in Canada. The people are lovely, the food is terrific, the cheese is world class, and Canada is easy to get to. It will give you a whole new perspective on the world of food - without the jet log!
—James Mellgren, Senior Editor, The Gourmet Retailer, USA.
